Sick Delays and Sick Fanart

No one really plans to get sick, but it's bound to happen two or three times a year in my case. It's not the best update to happen at the end of the year, but it is an update! Thanks kindly to everyone who has checked in and helped keep me accountable for each week.

Also a little fanart from a special friend and supporter Cranberry. (Like her on Facebook)
She has always been there for me every hour I put my pen to tablet.

I appreciate any art or comments given about my work either on this site or via e-mail.

Thanks kindly,
Krontars

Concept Thursday - Imps

The original idea behind the small creatures who live in the forest is that they are the natural denizens of the planet. They live in the forest and act more or less like the guardians (as you'll see later on in the story). Their language is based on ancient Celtic runes used by the Druids known as Ogham. When you see their language written out in word bubbles, it is actually modern Gaelic Irish translated into Ogham.

I never had a real height for them. I just knew I wanted them to be smaller than the Asteroider, and that the Implings would be below the knee.

There is a degree of magic that they possess, it is very related to the plants and foliage that can be found on the planet. How it works and how far it can go has yet to be seen.

One specific example is the turning of the Asteroider's gun into leaves of some sort. The standard issue Pulse Laser Pistol is used by all explorers on 1st person probe missions. It has enough plasma based fire power to melt through 6 inches of High Grade Steel without overheating. Each pistol is tuned to its owner and cannot be fired by another with a different digital organic/digital signature without high criminal grade hacking.

While the gun itself is no longer featured, it's energy still remains on the planet. Who knows how it will affect the natural life already existing on the planet.

(Looks like I accidentally saved over page 28, but I will update it later today if not tomorrow.)

Now, let's begin...

Edit
In order to make the page seem more like a lesson in reciting an alphabet, I've changed the runes to be more simple rather than spelling out each rune name in their original language. I find it reads better and basically means the same thing.

Sit!

 Edit:
With the older version accidentally getting saved over I took some liberties changing the standing/seated position of not only the Imps, but "Asteroider Daniels" as well.
I think it gives the feeling that she's a little more shocked and that it flows into the next page a little better. The lead Imp (aka: Ogham) has a much more demanding pose as well.
(I may have overdone the color as well.)

Chapter 1: Book Completed

So the first completed book is done and you can order a printed copy with 28 pages of... everything you've been reading for free. No, I don't make any money off of this and honestly I don't want to until I can provide a certain level of quality to my readers.

If you'd like to have a full digital version of the book for free then you can download the PDF here:

Thank you all so much for checking in, and I promise we'll be back to regular updates next week.

A Fistful Of Endings

This week's update ends the first chapter, but next week will have a cover, info about the printed book and some datapad entries. We'll be looking into moving sites and starting the next chapter ASAP, thanks for checking in.

Ficitional Pumkin Brew? And more!

Only because I have an affinity for this seasonal brew will I be introducing a line of fictional brews that our protagonist may also have an interest in drinking as well. (I'd try it.)

Edit

Just a little green to give it a little more versatility.

Edit

"The first and original in brewing in Zero G."
(Because we need a flagship brew.)

What IS going on out there?

Due to some technical errors, I lost the last page 10 that was posted but I've got the redone version and a sneak peak at the bare frame for next week.

Concept Thursday Strikes Back

Apologies are not always the best thing to read when expecting updates, however there are plans to move everything to a new website, with a new layout and everything soon. Sorry for another delay.

This week's concept sketch is the actual first draft of the 10th page. This page will have the background form the negative space for the first few panels, and continue with the short intro chapter of the story (Currently there are 3 written/outlined chapters and we are currently in the prologue). Very simple figures form the essential skeleton of the comic.

This scene plays a very important role in the next chapter and is known to the natives of this current planet as "The World Pitcher" Lots of experimenting with simple cool color pallets and LOADS of sponge-brush at different opacities. I wanted it to feel very open yet secret, secluded and with an aura of unknown power or importance. It is a concept sketch, so once the actual scene appears it may seem quite different once our main protagonist sets foot upon these hallowed grounds.

Concept Thursday!

I've been getting accustomed with my new computer and making the switch to Photoshop CS3 from Photoshop CS (wow). So there may be a learning curve of me trying to get back into a certain style.

However I don't like the idea of being absent for 2 weeks,, so here's some concept art of the interior of the ship as well as a nifty test of my new tablet with a gun that will probably never show up in the comic.

Rather than having a flame thrower, I've planned a gun to spray liquid nitrogen to grab fast samples of organic material or be used as a weapon of sorts.

Two handed guns are interesting to draw using reference, even more so when designing simple future tech. Next week should be a real update, hopefully. ;\

MushTroll Concepts

The original designs for the "troll" in the grass was a sort of golem covered in fungus and a hard chitin-like substance. Each troll would vary in types of fungus but have a relatively similar body structure except for the pack leaders, who would be bigger in stature and have a more armor-like symbiosis with the fungus. Moss texture would be used for the porous armor, while certain spots would have hanging moss, caps, and florescent spots to mimic eyes.

The design was changed from a generic golem to more of a gorilla base.

This way it's easier to identify them as strong and powerful yet as a viable native to the planet, rather than just some rock monster on a planet.

Those monsters wouldn't live in the grass.

Character Concepts - Story evoluton

The original concept of this story was actually much further from myth and mostly Sci-Fi.

It was going to be a short 5 page comic about a girl waking up and just punching asteroids in an experimental space suit. Maybe even an animation/animatic if time allowed.

However concepts grow and change over time, especially when an idea sits for a long enough period of time you start to play with character design.

A short 5 page comic turned into the idea of a young girl getting a job as a janitor on a space station and then putting on a battle-suit in order to save the station where she lived and getting inducted into a space-military of sorts.

However, setting the story on the station seemed cramped, the team was there for protection and there would be little movement so the young lady went from a protector to an explorer.

I didn't want an Americanized space explorer, so I decided to have her represent Ireland due to my love of Celtic Mythology. Then the main character came into full bloom.

But her space suit didn't seem... sturdy enough to had space exploration.

So, I took some inspiration from one of my favorite European cars and incorporated the headlights and subtle molding to make a sturdier suit for travel.

I was so pleased that I made this blog the very next week after sotryboarding.

Thanks for checking in.
